On 24-26 September 2014, the Centre for Renewable Energy and Savings (CRES), Greece - a partner in the TRACE project organized study visits on sites - best practices on improving energy performance and efficiency of buildings in Greece. The visits were attended by partners from 9 countries - members of the project consortium.
The participants reviewed the renovated Municipal Library of Loutraki in Attica, where they systems design and energy building were presented as a good practice and as an example of success in the implementation of nearly zero energy municipal building.
Another good example was the fully renovated municipal mineral bath of Loutraki, with implemented energy efficiency measures through the construction of low energy systems. The Hydrotherapy Center of Loutraki occupies 6,000 sq m and includes two indoor heated pools with waterfalls and hydro jet massage, cool swimming pool for post-traumatic rehabilitation, swimming pool and other treatment rooms. It is managed by the municipality for the benefit of citizens and tourists.
The project partners visited the Centre for Renewable Energy and Savings which is the Greek national centre for the promotion of renewable energy sources and energy rational use and saving. The buildings are located in Pikermy, Attica. The bioclimatic office building was designed in 1998 by associates of CRES as a demonstration building for the implementation of energy-efficient technologies. At the centre there are several laboratories for testing the energy performance of building materials as well as testing to improve internal air conditioning.
The study visits ended with a visit of the Energy Park in Lavreotiki, Attica. The park is implemented under the Operational Programme for the Competitiveness of Greece and is opened in 2008. It is an initiative of CRES for the various forms of renewable energy in full scale to acquaint students, young people and visitors with the technologies used and the resulting benefits to the environment and mankind.
